AL-Digital Literacy & Computer-Based Testing Skills Series Part 1: Introduction to Digital Literacy

Series Overview: What are the most important technology skills adult students (and teachers) need to develop in preparation to take the TASC on a computer and for career and post-secondary success? What are some ways the practice of these skills can be integrated into existing instruction? This four-part series on digital literacy and computer-based testing skills will explore these questions and some promising answers. Participants will spend time learning about tools and methods they can use with their students, develop a plan on how to integrate what they have learned, and then take time to try out their plans before a final face-to-face workshop in which participants will report back on their experiences so we can learn from each other’s challenges and success.

Session 1: Introduction to Digital Literacy

What does it mean to be digitally literate? We will use the TASC Online Tools Training and the Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment to discuss the answer to this question and develop our own individual digital literacy learning plans as a model for what can be done with students. Participants will discuss what technology tools they already use and what technology skills they think their students need to develop and practice.
